The action mode of the ECOGAS pest control technique with nitrogen aims at killing by asphyxia insects infesting food and other commodities. This is the response to the ever growing consumers’ requests for natural products without chemical residues and, obviously, infesting elements.

The technique is based on the introduction of nitrogen generated on site (with a high purity degree) and blown into individual treatment or conservation rooms or into silos, in such a way as to reduce the percentage of oxygen until less than 1% inside the volume, thus creating an asphyxiated environment for any living being.

All the operations are automatically performed by the oxygen analyzer provided with a dedicated software that monitors all the parameters, records data and transmits them in remote mode. Note that the percentage of oxygen in the air we normally breathe is 21%; the rest is nitrogen plus some rare gases in lesser percentages. As a consequence, any nitrogen leakage from silos (or room) is absolutely not toxic for the men working nearby; it is sufficient that the outside environment is ventilated. The system, since it is not toxic, does not require permits for its use.

The duration of the treatment is variable, depending on:

  • temperature and relative humidity in the treatment rooms;
  • types of infesting insects.

All the studies carried out up to now prove that temperature increases reduce the time of exposure needed for the insects to die; therefore, it is advisable to increase the temperature up to the limits tolerable by the product itself, in order to reduce the timing of the disinfestation process.
